so about those bachelor fashion recaps…

many of you have been questioning my dedication to this weekly endeavor, and rightfully so. i’ll get back to business soon…hopefully next week?

in the meantime, check out the possessionista for all of your bachelor (and other tv) fashion fixes. she tells you what the girls were wearing and where you can snag it for yourself.

today, she has posted an interview with meghan, who got the boot last week. (she was the one that wore the pink d&g wedges the first night.) apparently, meghan used to be a marketing manager for d&g! no fair.

wanted: one magical pair of shoes

the seasons are a-changin’, and i just did a major evaluation of my closet. not surprisingly, i own a TON of cream, olive, and gray. how can i spruce these colors up for spring without totally restocking (with the money i don’t have)? the answer is one word.

and shoes. if i get 2 words.

i got the idea from kendi:

for the next few months, the right pair will totally revamp my current wardrobe options. now i just need to find the ones that won’t totally bankrupt me…

{space wedge}

{forever 21 canvas cone heels}

{rafe naomi mini wedge sandals}

{dolce vita toni espadrille}

{pas de rouge nori wedges}

during my search, i found the most adorable pair of peep toe flats. they’re so daintily mary poppins…i had to share:

{rupert sanderson netty lack peep toes}

currently seeking asymmetrical necklaces

one of my favorite things about an outfit is a piece of jewelry that really pops. lately, i’ve been loving subtly asymmetrical necklaces. it’s all about the tiny details that make you look twice. for example, this is a necklace i made. at first, you might not notice the asymmetry in color. i think it’s kinda interesting. (check out more of my jewelry here.)

in a recent post on cupcakes and cashmere, emily shows off an awesome vintage find that shows off that same idea.

of course, nothing  that i found online even compares to the majesty of hers, but here are some cool necklaces that also embrace imperfection.

{kenneth jay lane crystal bib necklace}

{leafing town necklace}

{devon leigh opal and chalcedony necklace}

{aesa pendulum pendant necklace}

{house of harlow 1960 mixed media bib necklace}

{oscar de la renta pewter & brass coquillage necklace}

diy: ring necklace

i got this idea from ps i made this:

except who really has this many unworn rings just laying around? (i raided my mom’s jewelry box for this.)

i added some actual hardware (washers and nuts) to mine to make it a little more edgy. and i strung them on a chain instead of ribbon to give it an ornate and antique-y look:

what really repels men. SUPPOSEDLY.

awhile back, i told yall about my new favorite blog, the man repeller.

well today, a man chimes in on the trends that we women love, but that men HATE.

  1. Animal print: I know it’s coming back because I see more Zebras and Cheetahs  walking around the streets of New York every Saturday night. Sparing a limited array of feathers, anything that makes you look like an animal does not make me want to sleep with you  It makes me want to shoot you, but not in the “Oops I didn’t mean to” Dick Cheney way
  2. Shoes: It is often hard to fathom that something so important in your minds eye may mean nothing to someone else, but it happens. That’s right ladies, most (straight) men don’t care what shoes you are wearing. We usually only look at your face. But big army boots are unappealing. They make you look more masculine than I am.  Shoes with 1,000 buckles are a bitch to take off when we want to finally know one another biblicallyand multicolored neon sneakers that scream ‘NOTICE ME’ fall into this category too.
  3. Pants: I don’t know where the belly button covering pants idea came into play,  but us men like a nice belly button.
  4. Capes: They are for super heroes and Halloween costumes. Keep them at home unless you plan on becoming ‘Cockblock’, the ultimate super villain who can’t get laid and therefore makes sure that none of her friends do either. Time for a “girls night out!” “F*ck boys!” is your slogan. Go buy some matches for your cape.  This goes for big black ponchos as well.
  5. Oversized shirts: All men love when their girls looks like they just got out of bed and slapped on the button down he wore to work to make them cereal. But this trend has gone a bit too far. Some of the shirts you Repellers are wearing make you look like you just got ravaged by 3 Brad Pittscirca Fight Club. Some are enormous and don’t look like anything Fat Bastard would have worn. Some just look like your ex-boyfriends shirts that you loved too much to throw away…
  6. Big Bags: My mother once told me, “all girls have baggage Lee, just pick the ones with carry on.” I hold this true when it comes to fashion as well. There is no need to carry around EVERYTHING in one bag. Looking for shit takes you an hour, especially the keys to your apartment at 3:30 in the morning when you’re drunk. You are not Harry Potter and you don’t have a magical-fit-everything bag. When you go out carry a clutch and leave everything else at home.

i left out “holy shirts” and “american apparel bras” because those are both SICK. (read the whole post here.) as for those listed above, it bereaves me to know that this is how men feel…

does this mean i’ll start dressing differently?

further proof that women dress for other women.

unless you’re wearing something short, low-cut, and tight. then you’re dressing for men.

i present my new favorite blog, the man repeller.

recently profiled in the new york times, leandra medine is the inspiration behind the new way to describe an outfit: “i’m totally man-repelling today.”

this is her definition:

man·re·pell·er1 [mahn-ree-peller]

outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.
–verb (used without object),-pell·ing, -pell·ed.
to commit the act of repelling men:
Girl 1: What are you wearing tonight?
Girl 2: My sweet lime green drop crotch utility pants
Girl 1: Oh, so we’re man repelling tonight?
*DISCLAIMER: the above conversation took place in this room 5 minutes ago.

2009-10; < repellius (ptp. of repellia to eliminate male attention), equiv. to L repel- (s. of repellix) unattractive, celibate, paris fashion week, M.C. Hammer + -repel ler1

life is unfair.

jane aldridge and her mom have the best wardrobe selection in the whole world. i think she’s only like 18? ugh. this is one of the best ensembles she’s ever showcased on sea of shoes: vintage lilie rubin blouse and judith lieber lion belt.

on my wishlist: madchen daily constitutional coat

saw this on my style pill today:

madchen daily constitutional coat

{looks so warm! of course, i love that it’s got cape-like features but still has functionality and practicality, two things alot of capes lack. the equestrian features are to die for, and “constitutional” says so much…it’s a little revolutionary war-esque, no?}
